My dream has been to live in Costa Rica, but I have been open to other places, Puerto Rico has not been one of them, although Pablo was very interested in PR. Then, a few other people also suggested PR so I gave in and started investigating. And...that is where we are going! We actually gave ourselves a timeline and set our plan in motion. I do not know if we are going about this correctly or not, but here is our plan:
- Put our house on the market. I know we could just rent it out in case things do not work for us...I hate the thought of someone living in our house. If we sell it, it is no longer our house. So far I have a for sale sign in our yard, but I have not actually listed it.
- 2. Find a job! This is a big one, we cannot bring four kids to a new place without having a steady income lined up. No job, no PR. I am looking at international schools, but I am not sure what their pay scales are. I would take a teaching job, but ultimately would like to do something in the field of instructional coaching or curriculum development. I also see that Houghton-Mifflin is hiring there, so that is always an option. Even better yet, Pablo will snag the job of his dreams and I will be a stay at home mom and write more...
- 3. Divide all our stuff into three categories. Sell, Ship, Save. I have been wanting to me more minimalist anyway, so this is exciting!
- 4. Move out. We are assuming (hoping) our house will sell quickly. We will move in with my parents for the remainder of our time here.
- 5. Visit Puerto Rico. It may sound crazy, but we have never actually been to PR. We are planning to take a trip there over Spring break. Hopefully by this time one of us will have a job lined up. Maybe we can even bring a few suitcases of our stuff to leave there. This will be a time to get acquainted and make sure we are positive we want to make the move.
- 6. Finish the school year. We are committed to our jobs until the second week of June, we will stand by those committments.
- 7. Visit Puerto Rico. Once school is out I plan on going to PR by myself. I will bring a few more suitcases, line up an apartment and start looking at vehicles.
